Some orthodontic problems need to be treated before all permanent teeth erupt. When patients have mixed teeth (some permanent teeth and some baby teeth) it is important to protect the permanent teeth that are already erupted and provide enough space for those unerupted permanent teeth.
However, since not all permanent teeth are erupted patients only need partial braces with limited treatment that selectively correct few important problems. The treatment time usually lasts 6 months to a year. Patients may need another orthodontic treatment later on when patients have all permanent teeth.
